Renown
A Warden thrives on their reputation. In some ways they quite literally depend on it; a town is less likely to support a no-name conjurer of cheap tricks than a well-regarded regional hero. More experienced Wardens will also share superstitions that Aether gathers to the famous (or infamous).
Wardens gain Renown by publishing tales of their exploits.
- For major discoveries (usually the solution to a Mystery), all Wardens in the crew gain 3 Renown.
- For major areas of further study (usually something that could be a Mystery but wasn’t crucial to the Situation), all Wardens in the crew gain 1 Renown.
- Any Warden that can put their name to a major Feat (overcoming a great obstacle, an impressive use of a Power, defeating a powerful foe) gains 2 Renown.
- Any Warden that performs a major favor or boon for one of their Ties gains 2 Renown.
As Renown accrues to the Wardens, their power grows. Every 10 Renown, a Warden advances a level:
- +1 Aether
- Take a Power Upgrade or increase two Ability Ratings (to a max of 3)
- Gain or upgrade a Technique.
- Take a second Power
- Increase two Ability Ratings (to a max of 3)
- +1 Aether
- Increase an Ability Rating (to a max of 4)

After level 10, Wardens may upgrade a skill, technique, or power each time they would level up.
